FAQ

General

I have heard about the club but I don???t know anybody there, what do I need to do?

  • The only thing you need to do is show at O???Doherty???s Pub at 6:00pm on any Thursday and be prepared to run 5k or walk a mile. No need to feel like an outsider, just approach any runner if you would like to get the scoop. We pride ourselves in being a very open and approachable group.

I???m not a fast runner, can I still come?

  • One of the unique aspects of The Flying Irish Running Club is the diversity of our members. We attract everyone from new runners and walkers to recreational and elite athletes. In addition, the club is family friendly, so feel free to bring your kids.

How much does it cost?

  • The Flying Irish Running Club is free of charge and there are no obligations. We accept donations and apply them to the club fun, prizes, runs etc.  Just show up and run or walk. After the run, shirted participants are entitled to a couple half-priced beers, and burgers. Participate in six runs and you???ll become a ???shirted member.??? (You???ll be given a free Flying Irish Running Club shirt)

How is everything free? Who pays for it?

  • The running club is free to runners thanks to the support of our sponsors and your donations. They provide us with food, shelter, shirts, schwag, cheap beer, etc. and we support their businesses. Please support our sponsors and check out the special deals that they offer to Flying Irish Runners. Additionally we have started a treasury and donations are accepted to further the cuase of fun0 and run.

Why does the running club meet at a bar?

  • The club meets at a pub because it provides a social environment that is more inviting, less intimidating, and more social for our runners. But most importantly, they have beer.

Doesn???t drinking beer negate the positive effects of running?

  • No, we maintain that running negates the adverse effects of drinking beer.

Attendance

Why do you take attendance?

  • We take attendance so that we can award runners a shirt on their sixth and 50th attendance milestones. We continue to take attendance for shirted runners because we like to show off our club and keep track of member attendance totals for showing the strength of our club. Attendance tracking also creates some friendly competition between our runners and gives us the capability to give awards for special mile marks in the future.

I have attended 3 times but when I checked in last week it only showed 2. Can you adjust this?

  • Sure, we operate on the honor system. The easiest way to get your attendance adjusted is to inform the attendance taker of the error the next time you run with us. They will simply make a note and you should see that it will be corrected for the following week.

Shirts

How can I get a shirt?

  • Runners are ???Shirted??? on their sixth attendance. We hold a ???Shirting??? ceremony after each run at approximately 7:09 pm.

I???m visiting from out of town and will not be able to participate in the required number of runs. Can I buy a shirt?

  • The only way that a shirt can be obtained is to earn it by participating in the required number of runs. This is the agreement that we have with our sponsors and we cannot make any exceptions.

I lost / damaged my shirt. Can you give me a replacement?

  • At this point in time there is no way to obtain a second shirt outside of showing up 50 times. The shirts are ???free??? to the club but our sponsors have to pay for them and we have agreed to award only 1 shirt per runner. At some point in the future we may be able to provide replacement shirts for sale. Check back, we will update if and when we are able to do so.

Do I really have to get up on the bar & tell an Irish joke to earn my shirt?

  • At this point in time there are two ways to get the coveted shirt.  Join the masses in our psuedo-Irish Catholic ritual of getting up on the bar or wait until the holiday season and attend the BRRC Holiday party, telling your joke.

Pictures

I took a picture in my Flying Irish Running Club shirt when I was traveling. Will you add it to the Traveling Flyrish Shirts album?

  • Sure. Just email it to us and we'll add it

I took some pictures during the run last Thursday. Could you upload them to the website?

  • Sure, we can do this but we may pick and choose from your pictures to avoid cluttering the album. Contact our Photo Album Manager.

Misc

I have a friend that does not run but they would like to join us afterward to socialize. Is this okay?

  • Non-runners are welcome to socialize with us afterward but please respect that the specials are provided for participants only.

I would like to advertise an upcoming race.  Will you help me promote it?

  • We would be happy to publicize your event and we love giving away a race entry in so doing.  Just contact our Treasurer. In addition, if you would like to announce your race before one of our Thursday runs, just show up early and let us know, we can announce it for you or we can give you the stage to make the announcement yourself.

I really enjoy the running club and I have a good or service that I would like to donate. Who should I talk to?

  • Excellent, we love free stuff. Please contact our Treasurer with the details and they will assess how we might be able to make use of your offer.
