Running events offered for work and play

There will be a pair of running events taking place in

Spokane on Friday, September 22 nd in celebration of the

fi rst Road Runners Club of America Run@Work Day . The

Flying Irish Run will be hosting a Friday evening jaunt in

addition to their weekly Thursday event (that will go on

as usual the preceding day), while Runner???s Soul also has a

morning run planned at 8 a.m. on Friday to commemorate

the unofficial holiday.

Th e Flying Irish Run is a weekly staple held every

Thursday evening at 6, where participants jog, run or walk

a three-mile loop starting at O???Dohertys Irish Pub and Grill

in downtown Spokane. It???s free to all; simply show up about

15 minutes early to sign up. So, this week only, there are

two opportunities to join the Flying Irish ??? with the same

event being held Friday, September 22 nd as is held every

Thursday, including September 21 st .

There will also be a morning run starting at Runner???s

Soul , 221 North Wall, at 8 a.m. on Friday, September

22 nd . This 12k run will traverse the well-known Bloomsday

Course for a healthy dose of exercise before work.

These events are part of the national Road Runners Club

of America, and sponsored locally by the Bloomsday Road

Runners Club . According to Jim Hoppe, President of the

BRRC, ???We encourage area employers and employees to

plan and participate in local Run@Work Day events as part

of the national movement to get people to incorporate exercise

into their daily routines.??? For more information, visit

If you still crave more running over the weekend, Valleyfest

is holding its 17 th annual Valley Fun Run on Saturday,

Sept. 23 rd . This leisurely run is slated for three miles,

although there???s a shorter option, and gets underway at

9 a.m. at CenterPlace. The route follows the Centennial

Trail and loops back to the start where, at 10 a.m., awards

will be given away for the top three costumes. For more
